Day 12: Boating Aborted

I suppose "aborted" is not the best word to use due to the politics that are associated with it...but it sounds so good with 'boating" and really just means "cancelled."  Gracie and I were going to go boating with Jan today, but the weather seemed too unpredictable.  Intermittent thunderstorms were supposed to be possible.  I didn't want Gracie's first time on the water to include a frantic attempt to escape an electrical storm.  Waiting seemed wise.

Fortunately, Jan was understanding.  Instead of boating, Jan came over, and the three of us walked to the Edina Art Fair, up the hill and a few blocks from our house.  Vested up, Gracie behaved like a lady: stopping occasionally

while Jan and I admired art, ignoring other dogs (pets and not working dogs like Gracie), sidestepping excited children, and lying quietly under the table while Jan and I had a salad at a sidewalk cafe.  The thunderstorms never materialized but the humidity built  and built until it got quite sticky.  Jan was dressed the best for this in a sleeveless top and shorts; poor Gracie was dressed the worst in her heavy fur coat that is not easily shed--though she is working pretty hard at this, leaving a trail of blonde hairs in her wake that I cannot seem to keep on top of mopping up.  Oh, well, a few blonde hairs here and there are a small price to pay for such a wonderful companion.

No cat nap today!  Gracie is dog tired.
